Abstract
The study aimed to give voice to teachers about how they thought about, and worked, to bring 21st Century learning to their students. Teachers were interviewed about the demands they faced, how they addressed calls for 21st Century skills, and how they used classroom technologies. A semi-structured protocol was used to interview 25 teachers from 11 states and 4 international sites. Using open-coding and a constant comparative method, the teachers’ most significant issues, themes, and accomplishments in relation to technology were identified. Almost every teacher felt pressure to cover standards and prepare students for tests as a higher priority than engaging in 21st Century teaching and learning. They used a variety of technologies, but generally had not transformed their teaching with them. The TTT teachers expressed a hope for professional development experiences that would point them to the future with technology and new kinds of learning.
