Interactive Screening for Learning Difficulties in Arabic-Speaking Children

This paper describes the design of an interactive screening test for Learning Difficulties (LDs) in Arabic-speaking children for an ongoing research project. The screening program focuses on various aspects of the development of children’s memory, attention, language, perception, and logic reasoning. The screening is based on parts of existing paper-based screening tests, which are transformed into computer-based screening using an agile model of software development. Computer-based screening involves presenting the battery of tests to the child, scores of performance are automatically calculated by the program, and the child’s profile is generated upon completion. Using this computer-based screening enables a profile of risk factors for individuals to be developed making the targeting of resources for remedial programs easy and effective. It is also possible that this program could prove to be an efficient, cost-effective and targeted method of widespread screening for LDs in schools.
