The 21st Century Digital Workforce Apprenticeship curriculum is a program for students that are interested in learning more about video gaming and the video game industry. The curriculum uses video game design activities to motivate students to learn both hard and soft 21st century ICT skills as well as technical software and hardware skills that are needed in the gaming and entertainment industry. Students learn to problem solve, work in groups, design software, and understand the economic and management issues associated with game development. The most powerful part of the curriculum is the ability to focus students’ interest areas by harnessing their passion for video games and giving them a relevant context for understanding concepts across different educational fields. The project-based learning style and connection to industry professionals creates a powerful learning environment for students to succeed in.
