Abstract

This paper presents pedagogical ideas related to the use of algebraic inequalities as tools in context-oriented computing applications. Developed for and used in a capstone course, these ideas are consistent with and support recommendations for secondary mathematics teacher preparation in the United States. Specific illustrations are associated with two major themes: spreadsheet modeling and digital fabrication. The second theme can be used to integrate the ideas of engineering design in teacher education in an ad-hoc mode.
