Abstract

The Effect of the Texas Instruments Navigator System (TIN) on Students At-Risk with Regard to Achievement and Attitudes in Algebra I was funded by the Research in Disabilities Education (RDE) program’s Focused Research Initiatives (FRI) track, National Science Foundation. The primary goal of this project was to determine the effectiveness of using TIN technology in high school algebra coursework with students who are at-risk for academic failure. A quasi-experimental study was conducted focusing on student mathematics achievement and attitudes toward the use of technology in high school mathematics. This investigation involved 756 high school students taking Algebra I classes in a southern state. In the treatment group, students used the TIN technology and in the control group only the TI-84+ Silver was used. The goals were to investigate effective instructional methods and practices for people with disabilities in STEM and to add value to the education of persons with disabilities in STEM.
