Abstract
This presentation will describe an investigation into using an engineering design challenge along with digital fabrication—the translation of digital design into physical objects—to improve the precision, clarity, and descriptiveness of fifth grade student writing. Included will be an overview of the interdisciplinary potential of engineering in elementary classrooms, the affordances of digital fabrication, and the capabilities of authentic audience and authentic feedback to enhance student writing.
