Abstract

This study aims to develop the instructional theory of integrating wikis to support collaborative learning in higher education by the researcher’s collaborating with two practitioners, who are higher education faculty with rich experience in educational wikis. A multi-method approach, developed based on design-based research and heuristic tasks analysis, is used to guide the research design, data collection, and data analyses. The instructional theory will be developed based on the educational contexts and the current literature in relevant learning theories; in addition, the theory will be implemented and revised based on the results of the implementations as well as the practitioners’ heuristic knowledge that underlies their performance. The anticipated results include (1) the evidence of wiki integration from the implementations, (2) the instructional theory itself, which includes the methods and the principles, and (3) the theoretical implications for the learning theories.
