Abstract

Students tend to adopt a surface approach when they learn biological concepts by rote memorization, thus they are less able to integrate concepts and apply them to solve real-life problems which are often complex. A proposed solution to this problem is the use of online concept mapping as a tool to promote the development of links between concepts and ideas, thus facilitating meaningful learning. This paper describes the use of the design-based research approach in the development of a deep approach to the learning of Biology with the aid of technology.
