Faculty Concerns about Online Technologies in a Developing Country

Online technology has had explosive growth recently, becoming more attractive in higher education settings. This research study utilized Hall’s conceptual model to further our understanding of online technology adoption among higher education faculty in a developing country. Accordingly, 621 faculty were asked to answer Hall’s Stages of Concern (SoC) questionnaire for investigating whether Turkish faculty could be grouped by SoC regarding online technology. This study examined if there is a difference between the groups of Turkish faculty who are categorized by their (SoC), with regards to their level of use of online technologies as measured through the conceptual lens of the Hall’s model. This study also inquired into what Turkish faculty describe to be effective faculty development and support activities to resolve their concerns and encourage them to integrate online technology into instruction. Finally this study examined any differences that might exist as a result demographics and Turkish faculty’s level of use of online technologies in instruction.
