Abstract

The use of tagging has been proofed to be a valuable method for structuring and organizing various kinds of resources. Most tagging systems integrate tagging into an existing organization structure. The approach introduced in this paper presents the enhancement of tagging by using the existing structure of virtual knowledge spaces to improve tagging of resources. This results in an inheritance structure for tags and a method to generate tag proposals. The benefit is a faster and easier tagging process and an improved self-descriptiveness of resources, which reflects the structure of knowledge spaces.
