Abstract
Abstract: The CUNY One-to-One Laptop project at the Queens College Campus was undertaken to provide a cost rationale for requiring students to purchase laptop computers. If the cost of laptop computers with digital content was less than or equal to the cost of textbooks, then the required purchase of laptop computers would be efficacious. Data indicated that the current availability of online textbooks presented a barrier to campus-wide adoption of digital texts; however the utilization of LMS along with available digital content made the purchase feasible. The use of LMS was reasonable only with an appropriately trained faculty. This paper discusses the issues faced during the project and the ensuing development of a comprehensive faculty training model that supports faculty in the creation of an online course presence. This training model focuses on pedagogically sound development and delivery of online instruction and can be adapted for the K-12 level.
