Writing and writing readiness skills of LD children using TabletPC

This study investigated the effectiveness of instructional materials on TablePC computers for LD children in elementary schools. The target task was to improve their writing and writing readiness skills of Japanese Kanji and Hirakana characters. The authors developed Flash-based writing materials which consisted of Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception (DTVP). TabletPCs were used to provide ways to navigate and write Kanji and Hirakana characters on the materials directly through the screen using a special stylus. Then, the effects of DTVP-based visual perception materials which run on the TabletPCs were analyzed by comparing baseline data produced by three LD children of varied writing subtests. The results demonstrated remarkable effectiveness of DTVP-based instructional materials on TabletPCs in promoting LD children's writing and writing readiness.
