Abstract

This paper presents preliminary results of a study exploring student engagement with the PoodLL video tool. The PoodLL video tool is a Moodle LMS module which allows learners as well as instructors to record and view other videos created and accessed within a Moodle course site. In the literature video has been linked time and again to increased student engagement and interest. This study sought to identify some of the uses students and instructors in fully online courses might have related to such an embedded video tool. Findings indicate that graduate students and their instructors do make use of an embedded video tool to support social presence and form initial connections. Further research into video tool access supporting student engagement in an online course is needed.
