Abstract

The drama based learning in the classroom is that the teacher or students perform knowledge-related events in which actors live and perform in the scenario to the audience who are their classmates. They may perform in groups with different scripts. However, students are always only focused on their own performance and ignore the performance of other groups. This will degrade the learning achievement of students. In this paper, we propose a new learning model, that is, audience involved drama based learning and implement a digital theater to support the model. The students as audience can participate the drama performing by participating in interaction through a personal tablet. The students can learn by script writing, drama performing, and participating interaction in the drama. Therefore, the students can learn knowledge in other group's script by participating in the interaction in their performing. The model has done an experiment in 9th grade class in English as a Foreign Language class. The experiment data shows that the model has higher learning achievement and higher learning engagement than drama based learning without audience involving.
