Abstract
This brief paper describes a pilot study of an innovative cross-disciplinary project that supports individual growth in professional writing by focusing on students' identified areas of need. This paper specifically reviews reasons and strategies for creating an online tutorial; data, findings, and implications from the pilot study; and future research studies designed to investigate the effects of web-based, learner-centered, and self-paced tutorials. The writing tutorial was created initially for students entering Arizona State University East's Education programs, but also has direct application and transferability across disciplines and campuses. The data collected from this tutorial includes completed material, post-test score, and student's attitude and comments about the tutorial and using web-based instruction.
