Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) applications are progressively being integrating in medical education. The use of VR has the potential to facilitate teaching and learning in medical education and improve learning outcomes as well as improve patient care. A locally developed immersive VR software system (Enduvo) utilizing the HTC Vive was implemented for this study. The virtual environment was created using 3D modeling from the NIH 3D Print Exchange along with locally created 3D modeling from real-patient data. This study investigated the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors toward the use of this VR system and hardware among faculty and students. Further studies will focus on the creation and application of VR to teach basic science content in the first phase of medical school education and to determine the effectiveness and learning performance of students using the VR system.
