Abstract
In universities, students are required to take lecture notes for learning and questions. Lectures are often conducted with presentation documents including a number of slides. Using the handouts of the slides, the students could take the notes to construct their knowledge and make questions. On the other hand, it is not so easy for them to find out what to construct and ask from the lectures and handouts, which would often result in insufficient learning. The main issue addressed in this paper is how to take notes with the handouts for promoting the knowledge construction and questions. Our approach to this issue is to allow the students to make annotations in the handouts during the lectures to extract and connect keywords annotated and create a knowledge map. They are expected to construct their knowledge and ask some questions under the knowledge map creation. This paper demonstrates a tablet tool with some scaffolds, which help the students make annotations and connect keywords.
