Abstract

The aim of the current paper is to represent design and development studies of a mobile storybook application tailored for hearing impaired children’s literacy instruction. The aim of the mobile storybook application is to foster children’s reading comprehension. Texts are illustrated and enriched with interaction capabilities like emphasizing, underlining highlighting and commenting. Initial design of the application was evaluated by two field experts. Initial design was modified for experts' views. Following these modifications, group turned to usability testing procedures. Usability testing was completed with one Turkish Language teacher who had no prior experience with mobile applications. Following expert views and usability tests, project will continue with design based research cycles. The mobile application will be used within actual class settings and will be altered as required for each design cycle.
