Abstract

As mobile devices have become more advanced and cost less, the use of this technology has grown to the extent where it can substitute for other devices to find or manipulate information. This paper examines the use of mobile devices in HE among students in Saudi Arabia, and also looks into the opportunities provided by this technology that enhance and foster learning and increase cooperation among students. A survey was developed using online survey software and distributed online. 10,943 responses were collected and analyzed. The survey results showed that 99.57% of the students own a cell phone and, of them, 34.41% have more than one cell phone. With such widespread use of cell phones we looked at the most widely used applications and features and how many of them supported students’ learning. The most used applications among students are social media applications. The most used communication application in learning among students and between students and teachers is WhatsApp.
