Abstract

This research examines how preservice teachers develop the concept of educational technology and what influences this development. The researchers conducted a qualitative case study of 15 students in the elementary education certification program of a Midwestern state university. The researchers interviewed the participants to explore the preservice teachers' perspectives on educational technology. The analysis of the interview data indicates: (1) Both classroom management and computer knowledge need attention in preservice teacher training, (2) Developing the concept of educational technology is a continuous process of discovery and development involving knowledge, experience, and critical thinking, (3) Each of the participants is placed in different positions on the continuum of developing educational technology, and they gradually move along this continuum with their own initiative and the support of school.
