As international communication and education becomes available to teachers in developing countries via the Internet, studies that focus on cultural and cross-national multi-ethnic educational initiatives can help identify the factors necessary for beneficial educational exchanges to be examined and expanded.

This ethnographic study examines how a multi-ethnic group of 12 to 14-year-old American students interpret traditional African proverbial literature. Through the lens of multi-ethnic American cultural paradigms. Various technological tools are used to interact with teachers in Ghana, West Africa, and to learn more about their country and customs.

The study explores how the participants used communication technology to further their understanding of traditional Ghanaian literature. It documents participants' responses to Ghanaian literature, and its influence on their ways of understanding themselves as individuals, and the cultural norms or values specific to their own race or nationality.

The data collected are analyzed with respect to the participants ideology, self-interpretation, and interpersonal communication.
