Abstract
This study investigated the affect of Teacher Guided Multimedia CD-ROM program as a supplemental treatment in the teaching of EFL students in vocabulary acquisition. Eighty seven juniors in the Food and Beverage Management Department at Yuanpei University Science and Technology in Northern Taiwan participated in the study. Students from two intact classes were assigned to the control and the experimental groups. For four weeks, the experimental group divided its two weekly one-hour sessions into one hour of traditional and one hour of the Teacher Guided Multimedia CD-ROM program instruction. The control group received two hours of traditional instruction only.
The students took a pretest prior to the beginning of the study and a posttest after delivery of the treatment. The result of the study showed that the group that used of CD-ROM program achieved better English vocabulary acquisition than the traditional didactic instruction group. The results are discussed in the light of vocabulary acquisition. Suggestions for future research are made.
