Abstract
"Physics 2000", a major German multimedia project, addresses physics students after their intermediate exam. Several learning modules for distance learning and Internet-based experiments have been produced. Thus subjects hitherto unavailable at the students' home universities, can be offered to them. The use of the modules and experiments is being evaluated. The results of a first survey show that, while students use their computers and the Internet all the time, they are rather critical of e-learning in general. Yet, in a small study we could show how the advantages of multimedia learning and traditional lecture can combine and thus cancel out the disadvantages.
