Abstract
Amniocentesis videos are programs designed to provide information to clients, answer questions, and facilitate decision making regarding whether or not to pursue prenatal diagnostic testing. There are a number of videos currently available which describe and depict amniocentesis and discuss the benefits, limitations, and risks of this procedure. A review of the literature revealed little information on the quality of current amniocentesis videos. The purpose of this project was twofold. A set of questionnaires were developed based on previous studies evaluating the quality of educational materials and decision-aids, based in the framework of Consumer Information Processing theory. The newly developed evaluation tool was utilized to probe the responses of subject matter experts to four current amniocentesis genetic counseling videos. The findings were developed into recommendations for future amniocentesis video programs.
