Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between culture, physical environment, and geographical location as barriers/factors effecting the success of technology transfer to private manufacturing industries in Saudi Arabia.

Procedures. A survey instrument was used to collect data from 40 private manufacturing industries in Saudi Arabia. The questions were developed from available literature on the factors effecting technology transfer. Data analysis included Person product-moment correlations and simultaneous regression. The hypotheses were tested at the .05 level of significance.

Findings and conclusions. The first hypothesis stated that there would be a significant relationship between culture, physical environment, geographical location, and the success of technology transfer. This hypothesis was supported. The second hypothesis stated that there would be a significant relationship between culture and the success of technology transfer; this hypothesis was also supported. The third hypothesis stated that there would be a significant relationship between physical environment and the success of technology transfer; this hypothesis was not supported. The fourth hypothesis stated that there would be a significant relationship between geographical location and the success of technology transfer; this hypothesis was also supported. It was concluded that culture, physical environment, and geographical location all have significant effects on technology; necessary accommodations of these factors are vital to the success of technology transfer and will strongly facilitate the effectiveness of the technology.
