Abstract
Portfolios are an established assessment tool in program evaluation, including higher education programs. This paper examines whether university students and teachers believe portfolios represent students' performance and can be helpful in future career search. An evaluation form, using a 5-points Likert scale, was created to ask both students and instructors to rate their attitudes toward use of portfolios as an evaluation tool in higher education. The subjects were teachers and students in the masters program of a large, western, land grant university. Paired t-test and descriptive t-test were used to analyze data. The paper will present a brief review of the literature and the results of the study, with emphasis on the advantages of portfolios as an assessment tool.
