Abstract

Abstract: The evidence shows a phenomenal increase in the number of schools that have purchased Apple’s iPad tablets for classrooms. While the impetus of the schools’ iPad implementation may have been budget-based in that the iPad can inexpensively replace printed textbooks, the integration and use of iPads also helps schools comply with policy makers’ demands to include technology as a top priority in schools. The speed of iPad adoption has created a pedagogical crisis in teacher education program training. Critical to classroom iPad success in the future is a foundation of teacher training for teachers entering the teaching force. To address these rapidly developing learning needs, Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) utilized the TPACK framework to establish an iPad Initiative. This paper discusses outcomes and suggestions for future iPad lab development.
