Abstract

This paper deals with computational applications of number theory concepts developed from arithmetic properties of spreadsheet-based lattices. It reflects on activities explored with inservice and preservice teachers in an egalitarian, stu-dent- centered university classroom. The proposed pedagogy emphasizes the emergence of the concepts as a response to a particular problematic situation that arises via design of a computational environment. A discussion of the current mathematics education reform incorporates comments by the teachers.
