Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of digital learning tools on student learning. This study investigated the following question: Do students in classes that use digital learning tools show larger gains in reading and writing knowledge and skills than a comparable group of students n classes that do not use digital learning tools? Additionally the study explored the results by gender and ethnicity. Using a pre-post, treatment-control quasi-experimental design, this study compared the growth in reading and writing skills. The findings indicate that students in classes that used the digital learning tools learned significantly more than students in classes not using the digital learning tools. An effect size of .18 was found for writing and an effect size of.19 for reading was found.
