Abstract

The sharing of hypertext and hypermedia provided a powerful mechanism for language learners to co-create the learning community of using the target language. Yet, using technology has not prevalently implemented as an institutional goal to enhance EFL learning. This research project first reports a departmental networking site that combines four Web 2.0 tools (viz. blog, wiki, YouTube, and Slideshare) into a community of practice for English majors in a university of Taiwan. The established departmental site, Creativity Network of English (CNE), aims to build up the network effects of mass participation for the potential learning that lies in student engagement and interaction in user-generated EFL. The research project has two phases: (1) to investigate whether CNE can boost students’ intrinsic motivation, perceived competence and perceived autonomy, and (2) to explore whether students’ engagement in CNE can motivate teachers to incorporate pedagogical integration of CNE into their courses.
