An Interactive Simulation based Virtual Classroom System using Cloud Computing Technology

This paper presents a Simulation-based Virtual ClassRoom web system (SVCR), which integrates popular open-source simulations developed for K-12 education and enables customizable lesson development enhanced with account management for convenient submission and grading of assignments. The simulation programs are assembled and categorized from several simulation web sites that can easily be searched either by keyword, grade or subject. In addition, a graphical user interface provides teachers with a user-friendly edit environment to create homework questions such as multiple choices, true or false and free answer to assess student’s achievements. Convenient account management is also supported as teachers can create courses and post simulation lessons and assignments under a particular course. Students can register under a certain course after approval from teacher, do and submit their assignments for grading. Clouding computing technology is used to achieve scalability under high access demand.
