Faculty Development and Diffusion of Innovations: Technology Mentoring Cases from the Field

This symposium reports the research on faculty technology mentoring through the case studies where gradate students (mentors) worked with the faculty members (mentees) on various technology integration projects. Faculty Mentoring Program originated in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to meet the challenges that faculty experienced during technology integration to their curricular practices. The program is a part of a graduate course, Technology and Teacher Education, delivered at Iowa State University. Individual attention was given to each faculty mentee for their specific needs in technology integration and this also served as an ongoing support throughout the semester. This mentoring model has been used successfully for many years to help teacher education faculty address their needs for technology training and learn to integrate technology into their teaching. Accordingly, this symposium presents how faculty mentoring and technology integration differ according to the knowledge, skills and experiences within each unique mentoring context.
