Abstract

Many higher education institutions are incorporating globalization curriculum in their teacher and leadership preparation programs to meet national standards. In spring 2010, two professors in teacher education instructional technology programs in New York City and Taipei embarked on a globalization project for meeting needs of diverse learners. The globalization project in the NY institution of higher education is a unit in an online instructional technology course entitled Diversity, Learning and Technology. Blackboard 9.1 is the Learning Management System (LMS) used. The Center for Teaching provides a template design for with required elements for all online courses. However, as with any structural requirements applied to instruction, challenges for flexibility and innovation occur. Solutions, lessons learned, and ideas for further global projects will be discussed.
