Abstract

We have used video conference system and one by one communication system (Skype) and conducted collaborative distance learning lessons every two weeks for Taiwanese university students majoring in Japanese and Japanese ones majoring in Chinese at the same time periods for a semester starting in October 2008. What makes this trial distinctive is the collaborative learning environment where all the participants can give native peer support to the students over the network while they are themselves learners. During the lessons, we had presentations, questionnaires to the other group of participants, writing essays on the questionnaires, and corrections of the essays written by the other group. In this presentation, we will review the changes in the participants' motivation and their proficiency developments through the Japan-Taiwan cooperative distance learning, based on our analysis of the questionnaires completed after the course. We will also review and evaluate the lessons we have conducted.
