Abstract

Knowledge building is a key problem in E-Learning domain. However, current e-Learning systems focus merely on content, without consideration of learning design and Knowledge building. This paper presents an idea as a solution to Knowledge building ecosystem, including social culture environment, learning environment and Knowledge building system. This system provides a variety of tools to construct knowledge, in which members are able to collaborate, develop knowledge and other activities. Based on this idea, we design and implement this e-Learning ecosystem called Eco-Classroom with web 2.0 technologies. Through constructive and interactive activities among individuals and groups, Eco-Classroom supports acquiring public knowledge by adding, editing, integrating operations, and at last generating new public constructed knowledge. By the end of this paper, we take “Laboratory Inquiry” as an example to demonstrate the advantages of Knowledge building ecosystem. The future work is to develop components for knowledge management and construction modules in Eco-Classroom.
