
What Do Benchmarks Say about Quality Assurance for Online Course Development in Higher Education?

Abstract
As online programs continue to grow, quality assurance has become a critical topic in online education. This short article makes a brief summary of the benchmarks related to online course development, including benchmarks of the National Education Association (NEA), benchmarks of the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC), benchmarks of the American Federation of Teachers, and benchmarks of the Quality Matters project. In doing so the author hopes to promote the awareness of and commitment to quality assurance in online education.
