Abstract

As Taiwan's full-scale e-learning initiatives move to the 5th year in 2007, it is yet to fully understand the current status and challenges of e-learning as supplements to traditional, official educational systems. Further extending Zhang & Hung's (2006) investigation on Taiwan's e-learning in higher education, this study investigates a special phenomenon in Asian culture: the after school programs (ASP), which cover all educational levels and many training areas as well. This session will report findings, including current status and trends of short-term after-school institutions, guiding policies, and challenges of e-learning implementations in those highly demanded institutions, and will conclude with suggestions to address these issues. This session will be of particular value not only for policy makers in Taiwan and other countries or regions with similar problems, but also for e-learning venders and developers who would like to extend the e-learning market to Asia countries.
