The purpose of this paper is to explore the design of current educational recommender systems, and examine how they are integrated into learning settings. Five educational recommender systems are selected for comparing, and design principles are generated from the analysis of the five systems. The paper also uses online forum as an example, discusses how it could be improved by using these principles of educational recommender. Hopefully the paper is helpful for the future design and research of educational recommender systems.
