Abstract

Teacher educators have incorporated a range of technology into pre-service teacher preparation, applying technology to support the creation of technologically proficient teachers and reflective practitioners. Responding to this impetus in teacher preparation, the author created a reflective journal assignment integrating technology for a secondary English methods class. The pre-service teachers were free to choose the technology used for their reflective journal and several different formats were chosen. This prompted the instructor to consider the following questions: Why do pre-service teachers choose to use one technology over another? What are the implications in allowing pre-service teachers to choose their technology for a reflective assignment? Drawing from data collected during the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 semesters, these questions will be addressed in a brief paper presentation.
