Abstract

In the digital era we live in today, students at all levels from K-12 to higher education are exposed to enormous amounts of information in various formats. In today's environment, individuals must have sufficient knowledge and skills to know which information resources to use for specific purposes, and be able to evaluate information effectively in order to succeed at school, the workplace and in everyday life. Educational institutions today need to prepare their students to become information literate and lifelong learners, and librarians collaborating with instructors play a significant role in this process. This paper discusses an exemplary information literacy course required of all undergraduate students at a Midwestern University, which integrates different technological tools to enhance learning process, including WebCT and multimedia tutorials. In the conclusion, the paper addresses considerations for teacher education programs and the integration of information literacy into their core curriculum.
