This paper aims to explore the effect of newspaper English instruction in an EFL setting based on a cooperative learning strategy stemmed from Vygotskey's Zone of Proximal Development. The author proposed the production of news video clips by learners as the task that would fulfill the five essential principles of cooperative learning including face-to-face interaction, individual accountability, small-group and interpersonal skills, positive interdependence and group self-evaluation. The paper will conduct a literature review of the theoretical foundation of cooperative learning, especially its application in language learning, which is to be followed by an in-depth examination of how cooperative learning strategy can be used effectively in guiding learners's news video clips production process, which ultimately contributes to their successful learning of newspaper English. Guidelines governing the application of cooperative learning would be provided as the conclusion.
