Abstract

Higher education as an industry has seen evolution over time, with alternatives to the traditional campus based experience beginning with correspondence courses, moving to video lectures, then to online learning, and now the emergence of the most recent stage the credentialed MOOC. Online learning was the first part of this evolution that required traditional institutions to integrate a new approach into their traditional practices. This paper will introduce credentialed MOOCs, their students, and the business model to explore the possibility of credentialed MOOCs being the next disruptive innovation for higher education.
