Abstract

Open and distances learning solutions for learning Turkish as a foreign language has been gaining popularity over the last decade. In this study, authors share their experiences of their ongoing research project on designing and deploying a MOOC for differentiated instruction of Turkish as a foreign language. Differentiation in this research is limited with “content” and “learner readiness”. Learner readiness is contextualized in domains of trans-cultural diffusions. While design-based research is used as methodology, learning analytics and machine learning techniques is used to provide “data depth and richness” for differentiation. MOOC covers 53 modules. In each module, there are one Lecture video with Turkish, English, French, Arabic and Russian subtitles; one Drama with Turkish subtitles; reading materials; exercises to improve listening, reading, writing skills and pronunciation; game; self-evaluation tests for listening, reading, writing skills.
