Abstract

This study is based on teacher classifications according to the number of years spent teaching. Teachers are classified as Early, Mid and Late Career. Differences among categories of teachers are examined with regard to technology proficiency, technology integration and access to technology tools and resources. Major findings were that Early Career Teachers reported higher confidence in their competence with the use of emerging tools (mobile devices, e-books, etc.) for instruction but lower for well-established technologies such as spreadsheets, database systems and other software packages. Mid Career Teachers reported the highest means for four of the six proficiency factors – Email, WWW, Integrated Applications and Teaching with Technology which are judged by the researchers to represent established, rather than emerging, technologies.
