Abstract

STEP UP (Success Through Early Preparation for Undergraduate Programs) was a hit with schools and students within Northwestern's ten parish service area. A Dual Enrollment Program with reduced tuition and courses taught within the local high school, students were earning up to 18 credit hours during their senior year of high school, at a cost of $100 per course. There were barriers to the program's growth, mainly associated with the rural schools' limited teacher resources. Many of these barriers could be solved through an online version of STEP UP, but in order for the program to work, it required the use of high school teachers. Collaborating with the Louisiana Virtual High School provided an answer. In the fall of 2003, students across the state of Louisiana will have the opportunity to pursue dual enrollment credit via online courses. Come and learn about the challenges and opportunities that abound when you STEP UP to Online Opportunities for Dual Enrollment.
