This study describes a systematic project management process for Bridging for Language Outcomes in the Classroom (BLOOM), a grant-funded media production project at Florida State University. BLOOM provides a computer-based vocabulary intervention built into e-books which can be applied for Spanish-speaking English language learners in kindergarten and first-grade. Each e-book uses interactive multimedia to enhance language interventions that enhance vocabulary knowledge of the target learners.
Three teams are collaborating to create BLOOM e-books, with each performing different tasks from different locations. Project management documents are used to enhance effective communication between the teams. For example, a specification clarifies requirements for media production and tracking documents are used to manage the entire e-book production process including e-book text, audio and video production. Practical suggestions and challenges associated with e-book production are provided.
