Abstract

To enhance a course in 3D modeling for mining engineers a problem-based learning (PBL) approach was applied to the course design. Online courseware was designed around the PBL model to support student learning. This paper outlines some of the theoretical background to PBL and its application to computer-based courseware design and development. The application of the PBL approach to the 3D modeling course is described, with evaluation data. The paper also illustrates further developments for the course using additional media.
