Easy Acquisision and Customization of High-Quality Interactive Learning Content for Your Curriculum

This paper addresses one of the most difficult hurdles in bridging technology with education - the design and adaptation of technology-enhanced, interactive learning content (animations and simulations). On one level, the design of interactive learning content needs to change. Much "interactive" material is limited to "point-and-click" with no added pedagogical value because it is not effectively designed to use technology to enhance the material. Also, many of their interfaces lack clear pedagogical goals that students can easily identify. Next, there needs to be a way for instructors to easily access material in a global repository and customize it to fit their course content. Integration is currently limited to some links or accompanying CDROM. We have designed system that integrates into any curriculum and houses an instructor authoring tool linked to a repository of high-quality interactive learning content in the biomedical sciences. http://www.virtuallearninglab.org.
