Abstract

This paper describes the development of a game designed for the educational multimedia industry as a rural simulation. The target audience of the game is school children of the ages 7 to 14. The main aim of the game is to allow users to undertake community and environmental planning. The key contribution of the paper is the development of an AI based framework using agents and a blackboard representation. This is essential for the realistic simulation of the whole environment and thus the playability and educational effectiveness of the game, as any type of social system requires some co-ordination of action.
