Abstract

Learning happens at different times and in different contexts. The future of learning technology is systems that can seamlessly support learning across a variety of contexts from lectures and problem-based learning in the classroom, to collaborative work outside of the classroom, to individual study, review and refinement. Knowledge is built up piece by piece in each of these environments and an learning system must provide pervasive support for learning activities in each environment. Notes, annotations, diagrams, simulations, and all other types of content created or extended in one context must be available and editable in all. Software to support these activities enables pervasive learning.
